Derrick Anthony (Ensemble) is a native of Chicago's southeast side and proud of it!
From an early age he knew he wanted to be a star and according to his mother, made no secret about it when he stole the spotlight from Prince Charming in a day care play. Since then he has studied acting Jackson State University and the E.T.A. Creative Arts Foundation. Comedy, however, has always come naturally to him. Derrick has contributed both on stage and behind the scenes for many of A Real Read's productions. He has toured locally, regionally and nationally with the company, helping to spread the message of love and acceptance to a variety of individuals. Derrick was featured in the film documentary, Living with Pride: Ruth Ellis @100 as well as the Gay and Lesbian television news magazine, In the Life. He has been seen on stage at the Park West and Victory Gardens Theatre. Prior to joining A Real Read, Derrick worked with The Chocolate Chips Theatre Company, MPAACT, and the Maat Production Association for Afrikan Centered Theatre. A Real Read is where his heart will always live. Derrick wishes to dedicate all his creative endeavors to Bettie Thomas, Randy Evans, Charlene Stillwell, Winnie Long, & Ms. Mary Edith Adams, who was his greatest fan in whatever he, choose to pursue.
Derrick is member of Onyx Leather Men, a Same-Gender-Loving Leather African American group in Chicago, Illinois.
